Local community engagement and development programs
Focusing on building relationships with our customer base is also showcased in our approach to Community engagement in many ways. All of the programs were carried out with deep commitment from the management and the employees alike, harnessing the strength of our island wide branch network and head office staff. The company reached out to support the micro finance customer who were adversely affected due to the flooding, during the year under review. A high percentage of them (i.e. 95%) being females with small to medium scale plantation or garment industries, adverse weather conditions imposed a daily struggle to support themselves and families, while keeping the business afloat. Bridging the gap between the disaster and recovery timespan, we offered our affected customer base cash inputs and dry rations. In addition, the company stepped up to offer monetary assistance to an employee of Matara branch, whose house was seriously damaged in the flood. Moving beyond our valuable customers and employees, we conducted a blood donation campaign at Ashokaramaya, Thimbirigasyaya and supported the Blood Bank’s drive to collect and store needed plasma.
During the year under review, we assisted a needy school, Palanda Maha Vidyalaya in Mathugama with school stationery and equipment to their student population. Most students in this model Primary School, could not carry on with their studies due to gross lack of books and material as their parents are unable to provide them due to lack of a livelihood
for themselves, have no proper livelihood. This was also an opportunity for our employees to input to the social needs of a people in need. The annual Dansal program together with the participation of Thimbirigasyaya Youth Society took place with participation of most of our customers which allowed us a closer interaction with them and valuable networking time.
